Accessibility
Cairn and this website are designed with people who find small or faint text hard going in mind. This is what has been checked so far, and what has not.
What has been checked
- Contrast. Body text meets WCAG's highest level, AAA (at least 7:1), in both the light and dark themes. Measured, it is 16.70:1 on the light page and 15.02:1 on the dark one. Those figures are for body text at full strength; some secondary text is set lighter, and not all of it has been measured yet.
- Text size. Body text is never smaller than 15px. Labels and short notes are set at 13px.
- Keyboard. The main paths through Cairn and this website work with the keyboard alone. On this website, the first Tab press offers a Skip to content link.
- Focus. A visible ring shows which link, button or field has the keyboard focus.
- Motion. When your computer is set to reduce motion, moving animations are switched off.
- Colour. Every status in Cairn is written as a word, so colour is never the only way it is shown.
What has not been done yet
Neither Cairn nor this website has been tested with a screen reader yet. Pages are built with headings, labels and descriptions for screen readers, but until that testing is done we cannot say how well they work with one.
Report a barrier
If something in Cairn or on this website is hard to use, email ghenderson8181@gmail.com. It helps to say where it happened, what you were trying to do, and anything you use to read or navigate, such as a screen reader, magnifier or keyboard. We aim to reply within 5 business days.
